Climate Energy Water Institute

Who We Are

A Somali institution to combat climate change, combat poverty and create jobs. Develop solar technology and introduce resilient water resources initiatives

Best Tool To Combat Climate Change

The world recognized that renewable energy is the best available tool to combat climate change and established global climate financing. In 2019, climate finance totaled between USD 608 billion and USD 622 billion and climate finance data showed that renewable energy projects received USD 337 billion, representing almost 60% of all climate finance to mitigate climate change.

Globally the world has recognized, in order to reduce global warming and mitigate climate change the world must transition from fossil fuel to renewables. Electricity is the most versatile form of energy and Solar PV is the cheapest source to generate electricity

Cheapest Source To Generate Electricity

According to REN21, the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of utility-scale solar PV fell 85% between 2010 and 2020, from USD 0.381 per kWh to USD 0.057 per kWh.   Total installed cost of utility-scale solar PV fell 81% over the same decade and total global installed capacity increased by 17 fold making solar PV the cheapest source for electricity generations, see table below

Who We Are

A Somali institution to combat climate change, combat poverty and create jobs. Develop solar technology and introduce resilient water resources initiatives

Best Tool To Create Jobs

IRENA estimates global solar PV employment at 4 million in 2020. Solar PV creates about 4 times more jobs than wind energy that stood at 1.2 million in 2020

India Solar and wind job creation potential estimated at 3.4 million by achieving 101 GW wind and 238 GW solar in 2030

Solar rooftop 80% of Jobs

Solar utility 16% of jobs

Wind only 4% jobs

Who We Are

A Somali institution to combat climate change, combat poverty and create jobs. Develop solar technology and introduce resilient water resources initiatives

Best tool to create jobs

According to  IRENA half of the 122 million jobs created by 2050 will require only a primary or lower secondary education.  An additional 37% of occupations will require secondary education. This is very suitable for Somalia
